What Will We Do?
To make the most of the time available, an entertaining and informative format has been created. You will participate in small group discussions regarding issues in out of home care. Each group will present their ideas to a panel of federal officials and other youth development experts. We have arranged for motivating keynote speakers, entertainment, and time for sightseeing. Each activity lays the groundwork for the next. Everyone (youth and adults) is expected to be present and to fully participate. A formal report will be produced with recommendations from each group. Here is the report from the last Destination Future Conference in 2006.
Things to Do!
Please Note:
Conference on-site registration and dinner are the only scheduled activities for Thursday, August 14th. We suggest that you have a plan for your group on Thursday after arrival. Thursday dinner will be served from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the cafeteria. The National 4-H Youth Conference Center has a supply of outdoor sporting equipment such as volleyballs, basketballs and footballs that are available for your use, as well as a fitness center with state-of-the-art exercise equipment. A recreation room with internet access, large-screen television, video games, pool tables and air hockey is also available.
The Connecticut Avenue/Maryland Metro Bus stop is located in front of the 4-H Center at Connecticut Avenue & Taylor. Take the L7 or L8 bus to Friendship Heights Metro Station (approximately 4 miles away). From this station you can access the Metro Train system and travel all over the District of Columbia area. The bus runs approximately every 15 minutes. The last bus departs from Friendship Heights Station returning to the 4-H Center at 11:05 PM. During Free Time on Thursday afternoon or evening consider visiting the National Zoo or the International Spy Museum. |
